ARMOURANS
MAGICAL ALIGNMENT: Dark, sin following.
LIFESPAN: As armourans are practically invulnerable (unable to be affected by illness, aging and the vast majority of injuries), they have no definitive lifespan. Originating in the 1300s, it is entirely possible for a modern-day armouran to have been alive since then.

There are only two ways in which an armouran may lose their life:
- Total destruction of the body, including the outer shell. It would take being hit by a semi to even come close to being fatal.
- If someone 'pure of heart'* touches the inner core of an armouran, they will almost immediately disintegrate.

APPEARANCE: From an outside perspective, most armourans appear as an ordinary suit of armour, albeit with a faint glow visible in low lighting.

This is because their outer casing is nothing more than your standard overworld metal. Whether it is forged to fit the individual, sourced from a museum, or simply passed down from a relative, their outer casing is absolutely paramount to their survival.

Some are forged from scrap, some from high quality titanium. Regardless, their armour always features some kind of eye-holes, emanating a bright glow from underneath.
Helmet designs vary massively, with some featuring a colourful head frill.
A tail made of chains, or even chains entangled in ones hair, are common aesthetic additions.

*Referring to someone with light mana and a strong devotion to their virtue, or someone destined to be redeemed.

Without their armour, these beings have a transcendent allure, a glimmering, translucent form like molten stained glass. Dark, deep colourations are usual, such as a purple or a midnight blue, monochrome but remarkably beautiful. Their stark-white pupils stand out like blood upon the snow.
ABILITIES: Despite being sewn from the threads of the arcane itself, armourans are not known to have specific abilities. In the off chance that they are able to use magic, these powers are rather ineffectual.
OVERALL BIOLOGY: Strangely enough, these enchanted forms do not have any internal organs, not even those necessary for breathing. Nutrition and rest are of no concern to an armouran - they even forego having a skeleton, relying solely on their devotion to their pantheon* to sustain their physicality.
In an attempt to blend in with a modern day society, the majority of these beings have adapted a 'faux stomach', allowing them to temporarily taste, ingest and enjoy food, though this practice is considered wasteful. Most have also adapted a rudimentary nervous system, allowing them to feel and process pain.
Although their arcane structure waives the need for sleep, most choose to spend their evenings in a form of deep meditation. For hours at a time, they submerge themselves in worship, calling out to any and all chosen deities, even on occasion Lucifer himself. This process helps to repair any minor damage to their core, though it does nothing to 'heal' their outer shells. This must be done the old fashioned way, with a bit of scrap metal, elbow grease and a blowtorch.
REPRODUCTION: The manner in which an armouran creates offspring is rather... unconventional. They have no reproductive system, and no real genetic code. Alternatively, in order to carry on their legacies, these beings may remove a small part of themselves, nurturing it into an entirely new being. Imperfect copies of their parents, these offspring may vary slightly in eventual height, colour and personality. The creation of a new armouran is almost instantaneous.
HYBRIDISATION: For the aforementioned reasons, an armouran cannot hybridise with another species in the traditional sense. They may,
however, intentionally meld a 'newborn' to have certain characteristics, such as animal ears, in order to resemble a parent of another species. As these young grow, their future armour may be designed accordingly.

CHILDHOOD AND DEVELOPMENT:
Often referred to as 'sparks', a young armouran is mostly indistinguishable to a young stuffin. Smooth, brightly coloured and incredibly vulnerable, these infants are provided with an outer casing as soon as they are able to hold their own heads up. They develop at a similar rate to humans, if not slightly slower, with some taking upwards of five years to even develop fingers, let alone learn to use them.

Raising an armouran is a task in itself, and a material heavy one at that. Each carefully crafted set of armour is outgrown within a year or two, and some parents choose to retain outgrown sets in order to later reuse it. Talk about hand-me-downs. As a young spark cannot survive the bumps and scrapes of childhood without protection, the necessary metal to create armour is accessible for free via a government scheme.

ORIGIN: Unlike most species, the origin of armourans is incredibly well documented. In the 14th century, a spellcaster was commissioned by a high lord, with a very clear request: to design an indestructible soldier, incapable of human error or pain. The latter request, of course, was a failure.

CULTURE: Despite being entirely born from dark magic, an armouran's devotion is not restricted to praising the gods of the shadows. There is an extreme cultural diversity within armouran communities, and attempting to sum up their rituals and traditions would be futile. Every armouran worships something equally unique and peculiar. The only commonality? In order to worship, all armourans remove their helms.
There are no strict naming conventions within armouran communities, only a great fondness for names of a latin origin.

Due to their durability, armourans are often recruited for the Embers Edge Military.

Although metal is greatly favoured, an outer shell can be constructed from any durable material. Sheets of fiberglass are a common quick fix for minor damage.
